Education
BBA,
Western Michigan University, 1967.
12 hours post graduate work in
business.
Background
1967-68 and 1970-71: Continental
Can Co., Michigan. Management trainee, then
shift foreman in paper products production department.
1968-70:
US Army, one tour of duty, Vietnam, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment,
Sargeant E5, honorable discharge.
1971-92: management of
apartments in Michigan (220 units); then salesman’s and later broker’s
license for real estate; converted apartments to condominiums for
attorney client (200 units) handling on site sales personally and the
management of the associations until turnover; then sold 153 other
units to attorney and converted those to condominiums for him; then
relocated to Florida to do small conversions and buy/sell SF houses
for own portfolio. Bought
and converted six small apartment properties and one 80 unit, then
owned 104 unit rental property that sold as a rental, and finally
bought and sold SF homes for my own investments.
1992-95: National Sales Manager
for plastics company in Miami, Florida. Hired
and supervised reps, called on Home Depot DIY buyers.
1995-2003: started my own
plastics distribution business, North American Plastics, Inc.
Contracted with Ohio factory to manufacture for
him; sold them the business in 1997; working as consultant for them
until a final cash out end of 2003.
2003: hired to do a feasibility
study for Water Monitor, Inc., a sub metering company in Minneapolis, Minnesota during May-June 2003. During
that process of evaluating other multi point and single point
submetering companies and meeting with the Florida PSC on the concept
and legalities of it, he was recruited by Wellspring International, the
leader in the multi point installation field, to establish business
for them in the Southeastern states of Florida, Georgia, S. and N.
Carolina, and Alabama as of Sept. 2003. He set up reciprocal
referral agreements with two single point companies in Tampa and
Atlanta, completed 11 proposals, and finally a referral system for
properties to their VP of Operations in Florida. This finalized
his
duties to Wellspring, and he proceeded with licensing reactivation in
real estate in Florida late 2003 to allow him to return to apartment
brokerage and condominium conversion activities again.
November 2003: Mr. Deree placed
his license
with Smith Equities Corporation and began to open the SE and SW Florida markets as well as statewide contacts for
apartment brokerage. According to Mr Deree, "Having
learned of Smith Equities Corporation (SEC) through the Orlando and
S.E. Florida Apartment Associations that I attended for metering
business, I researched their database/website system to compare to
other brokerages with the “eye” of an owner/buyer/seller myself.
Being very impressed with the volume and ease of information flow on
this site, I joined SEC. Having owned and sold my own apartments, and
having completed condominium conversions both for my own portfolio and
for an investor client, I felt this SEC system was vastly superior to
anything available or offered by any of the other national real estate
firms "
